The new school building is housing the The Norwegian Section as well as the Polish, Turkish and the Italian section of the SHAPE International School. The architectural task was to furnish the interior of a relatively small library room for children at the age of 6 to 15 years olds, attending 1st to 10th grade in the Norwegian section of the international school at SHAPE.
The library will be a multifunctional room that will create an environment for learning, relaxation and social stimluation for smaller groups and individuals with different needs during the day and evening thoughout the school year. The acoustic qualities of all of the furniture was considered very important, in order to provide various spaces within the room that would allow for concentration as well as group activities.
The library is the first room all visitors and users see when entering the building, and the school wishes to promote the school as an inviting place for learning and socializing through the use of colours and moveable furniture. The furniture needed to be durable, timeless and aesthetically inviting for everyone in the school to use every day.
The variations of seating arrangements was carefully chosen to provide a room that easily could alter with the changing needs during the day and during the school year, and the users and the architect wished to create a playful and colourful environment for the children and youth that would inspire to learn, create and also find space for relaxation. The library will be an exhibition window for the school, that becomes a colourful oasis that seeks to inspire children and youth to read, play games and socialize.
The demand for good quality acoustic qualities and furniture that provide both modern and timeless furniture design, as well as a desire to choose local Belgian design for the school located in Belgium, made Buzzispace a natural choice for the architect. The quality and simplicity of all the components of both seating and wall hung acoustic disks, add colour and variation to the otherwise monotonous interiors of the building and the library will hopefully provide a good environment for learning and socializing.
